Chinese 5 spice steak (slimming world friendly)

I love steak especially on a Saturday night as a treat but sometimes it can be a bit boring, This recipe is again from 'Goks Wok' his latest book and a lot of the recipes are pretty healthy.

I made this tonight and served it with a simple salad and some potato wedges on the side there was enough of the marinade to easily coat two steaks so although this recipe is 2 syns  if you make it with two steaks to serve two it is just 1 syn each : )

Hoi sin sauce and Chinese 5 spice powder can be found easily in most large supermarkets but I pick it up when I stock up at the Chinese supermarket I visit every month or so as its much cheaper.

Chinese 5 spice steak

  • 1 or 2 steaks (trimmed of all fat)
  • 1 tbsp hoi sin sauce
  • 1 tsp chinese 5 spice powder
  • 1/2 tsp ground white pepper
  • spray oil

Mix all the marinade ingredients together, Place the steaks on a dish and smother the steaks with the marinade cover the dish in clingfilm and set aside to marinade for at least 30 minutes then turn the steaks over and brush with the marinade so both side get coated and leave for another 30 minutes.

Spray a frying pan with the spray oil and heat the pan , Place the steak in for a few minutes over the high heat then turn over and cook the other side. Take the steaks out of the pan and leave to rest for a few minutes (This is important to keep the steaks juicy).

Slice the steaks if you want to and serve over salad or rice or potato wedges or whatever you fancy x

2 syns for the marinade.
